"It is really hard to articulate how it has helped me, but I'll try! Firstly, I think the atmosphere is amazing. Everyone whether new to the course or not is able to feel completely comfortable which I think is so important in helping achieve good music making with each other. The fact that the 'teachers' were also playing within groups was an invaluable experience; it also meant that the instruction could be done through playing, rather than conversations which was an aspect that I really enjoyed. I feel really privileged to have been offered financial support for the course, as my summer would have not been the same without it!
Thank you so much!"
"I would like to let you know that N. had such a wonderful time at Music work camp in July. At the beginning she was a bit stressed because she just got back from our long summer holiday in overseas...she also was nervous about playing in the groups. Although N. genuinely loves playing a violin and music, she has just once a week violin lesson and was not involved in playing with the other children and not used to play more than 2 hours a day. But she surprised me by saying that she would like to join this camp in the next summer again and had so much fun this time. I was very pleased to hear her enthusiasm about this camp. She said her attachment to the violin became more real and grown stronger.
Thank you very much again for organising the wonderful camp"
"I had been meaning to write to you anyway to thank you for the wonderful time you all gave J. She LOVED MusicWorks and I know will be happy to write some words to that effect. J has been fired up, wanting to play more chamber music next year and singing the Smetana endlessly! She thought the coaching was wonderful and inspiring and she is hoping that dates will work out in the future so that she can come again (her only complaint was that she wishes it had been two weeks not one!)
Thank you for all your help in getting her there and making this happen. You really have got a tremendous organization going. I'm sure it's unrelenting on the fund-raising side, but you are providing a wonderful opportunity for these kids."
"Musicworks was a great new experience for me. I have never before experienced such a good environment of chamber music as I did at Musicworks. We all got to explore great repertoire, and were aided by amazing coaches. In the evenings we all were able to sightread boxes of music and learn many new pieces. We also got to explore composition which is something I had never done before. Overall I had a great time and would love to go back to another year at Musicworks."
"MusicWorks is like nothing I've ever been to before: it's so intense, so inspiring, I didn't want it to end. Working so closely with the teachers and making music was awe-inspiring and gave me an incredible confidence in what I am doing musically. I can't wait for the next course!"
"I live in Tambov, Russia. I am playing violin since I was 5 and I love this instrument. In July 2008 I attended Music Works chamber music courses in England and had a great experience of playing chamber music. I had an opportunity to meet young musicians of my age from different countries. I worked with marvelous teachers: Robert Max, Catherine Manson, James Boyd, Melanie Daiken. I also attended the class of contemporary composers' music and tried writing some of my own. Finally I joined a symphony orchestra, the 2nd violins section and played the first and second violin in a string quartet. I really enjoyed my great time of Music Works courses, I am grateful to much to all my teachers special to Robert Max, the Honorary Professor of Rachmaninov Institute, and I would like to come there again. Thank you."
"MusicWorks is the highlight of my year. The three ingredients that make it such a wonderful experience are world-class inspirational teachers, lifelong friendships and, of course, amazing music. I have discovered a whole new world of fabulous chamber music through MusicWorks and can honestly say that it has changed my life!"
